Udaipur
Known as the City of Lakes, it’s one of India’s most romantic destinations. With its well-preserved havelis, palaces, ghats, temples, and the fairytale-like Lake Palace at its heart, it’s not difficult to understand why Udaipur is a sought-after destination in Rajasthan. Today, it serves as a shining example of heritage tourism in India.
Jodhpur
It’s the second largest city in Rajasthan, and is a feast for sore eyes. Colourful markets and winding streets run throughout the city, luring visitors throughout the year. Plus, the older historic section of this city is located around the grand Mehrangarh Fort, which is surrounded by several gates and makes for a great photography session.
Chittorgarh
The highlight of Chittorgarh is defined by its imposing 700 acre fort. Its tragic history bearing witness to some of the bloodiest battles in the mediaeval era, Chittorgarh stands as a symbol of sacrifice and courage. This place is also associated with the Hindu poetess Meerabai, famous for her devotion to Lord Krishna, and is best known for the legendary story linked to Queen Padmini, on which Bollywood movie Padmaavat was based.
Bundi
If you are seeking a relaxed vacation, visit Bundi, a peaceful town set in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan where you can experience the most authentic side of the colourful state. Although the serene town is usually overlooked by tourists, it absolutely works in favour of offbeat travellers, who are in search of solitude and peace.
Ranakpur
Situated between two famous cities of Jodhpur and Udaipur, this beautiful village is located on the western side of the Aravalli Mountain ranges. Nestled amid lush greenery and surrounded by the misty mountains, the abundance of nature in Ranakpur along with waterfalls, valleys, and gorgeous lakes will guarantee that you enjoy a memorable stay here.
Jaisalmer
The very sight of this place with a majestic fort overlooking the city, illuminated sandstone buildings, and picture-postcard views of sand dunes, Jaisalmer will be a treat to sore eyes. While the Jaisalmer Fort is the major highlight of this place, there are numerous golden-hued shrines, whereas the Gadisar Lake is ideal for some quiet and relaxed time. Also, don’t miss the vibrant markets here.
Mount Abu
Sitting at an altitude of 4000 ft, Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan that offers you the much-need respite from the scorching heat. Surrounded by lush green forests, this beautiful hill town offers you the ideal mix of experiences that you might not expect to find in a state which is mostly known for its arid desert landscapes. Plus, its bustling street markets, scenic landscape, quaint heritage hotels, make it one of the most popular as well as most beautiful getaways in western India.
Bikaner
This place is class-apart and takes you on a great journey of fragrances and colours. Though it has not become touristy yet, this place will surprise you in many ways. If you want to capture the real essence of this place in your camera, visit it during the month of January when the Bikaner Camel Fair is held here.
Shekhawati
It’s a tourist’s paradise. Dotted with many spectacular havelis, this place is a must-visit for connoisseurs of architecture and art. Apart from the majestic havelis, there are also baoris, towering forts, and shrines that will keep you bust during your trip to Shekhawati. What epitomises the beauty of this place is the realm of ancient havelis that transports you back to yesteryears, and is a beauty to check out.
Pushkar
It’s perhaps one of the world’s most revered Hindu sites, and is home to one the rare Brahma temples in the world. A backpacker’s haven, Pushkar is most sought-after for its vibrant markets and cosy cafes. With the Aravalli mountains surrounding it, this postcard-like destination makes for an amazing getaway for nature lovers.
