Switzerland is a poet’s muse and a writer’s fantasy. It is a celebration of every form of happiness in this mortal world. It is about being in a perpetual state of trance courtesy of the bountiful blues, the gorgeous greens and the winsome whites (not the race). Switzerland is a poet’s muse and a writer’s fantasy. It is a celebration of every form of happiness in this mortal world. It is about being in a perpetual state of trance courtesy of the bountiful blues, the gorgeous greens and the winsome whites (not the race). A doctor could easily prescribe a heavy dose of this country to an ailing patient and expect a perfect cure. There’s a little bit of magic in this illustrious land and at the same time, there’s the remarkable realization that all of it is true. That’s Switzerland for you; it is a bag full of the most delightful of surprises. My tryst with Switzerland began in 2006, as a majorly impressionable and naïve 15-year-old. I had only visited certain parts of Southeast Asia in the past and was therefore completely stoked at the thought of physically being in all those places Yash Chopra had so brilliantly glorified on the silver screen. Only upon my arrival did I realize that there indeed was something exquisite about it. I swear on all the chocolates I gladly devoured.Every single Swiss city, town and village has a story to tell and a generous amount of love to share with those looking to explore the country. Zeroing down on one destination is a herculean task because practically everything in Switzerland is magnificent. However, barring the major cities, ten jewels, both popular and lesser-known stand out for various reasons and missing out on them would be nothing short of blasphemous.
Top tip: Buying a Swiss Rail Pass that provides you access to unlimited travel across the country along with several discounts on sightseeing is a clever idea as Switzerland is a very tourist-friendly place. Remember to validate your pass at the ticket counters before boarding trains or ask the train personnel to do it for you. Bon voyage!
