Getting around and about

Word to the wise: Don't pay too much heed to the timetables posted on bus stops. Also, many bus signs are written in Irish; it's useful to know that 'An Lár' means City Centre.
Dublin's centre is pretty compact, so if you're just planning to cover the main sights and don't mind a bit of walking, you may not need to engage with the city's public transport system at all.

If, however, you want to venture further afield, or save on shoe leather, the city's three main transport methods are DART trains, LUAS trams and the bus network.
For jaunts to the coast, take the DART, or Dublin Area Rapid Transit, which serves pretty seaside towns such as Bray and Dalkey amongst other suburban destinations.

To nip around the city itself, you can jump on a tram: the LUAS light rail system connects the major sights and shopping areas.

Meanwhile, the Dublin bus system, is extensive but can seem rather complicated to the untrained eye. If you need elucidation, check the website or pop into the main ticket office at 59 Upper O'Connell Street.
