Bikaner to host the annual Bikaner Camel Festival; all the details here

Come January 11-12, 2023, the city of Bikaner will host the annual Bikaner Camel Festival. The festival celebrates the harsh Thar desert’s lifeline – the camels. The annual festival is an initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan.

The two-day festival is celebrated in a grand manner with all pomp and show. Every year the festival attracts thousands of local and international tourists. As we already know, the festival revolves around camels. The festival promotes breeding, taming and training of these majestic animals.



Every year, the festival starts with a grand procession of camels in colourful attires, complete with traditional jewelry like anklets and necklaces. The lively procession starts from Junagarh Fort and ends at the Dr. Karni Singh Stadium, the main festival venue. The procession is a must-see.



The first day of the festival is earmarked for contests like camel pageant (one of the most awaited contests), camel milking, best shearing, and dancing. It is safe to say that camel dancing competition is another wildly popular festival event. The camels are trained to jingle their anklets to the rhythm of the music. Once the camels are done with their performances, it’s time for some cultural performances by Rajasthani folk artists.


The second or the final day of the festival is where people have the most fun. There are several competitions where locals as well as visitors can take part. There are competitions such as tug-of-war, water pot race, turban tying, traditional wrestling and kabaddi matches. The festival ends with a firework display.
