Though the narrow gauge hill train Himachal is not as much promoted as Darjeeling toy train, the fun of riding on it is relatively no less. A small seven-boggy train snakes through the zig-zag track on the mountains through tiny villages, iron bridges and pine forests. And your co-passengers will primarily not be tourists but local people who use this train for daily commute, so you get to interact with locals and learn about their life in this valley. You can plan to ride between Palampur and Jogindernagar. Although the train will be slow and can take up hours to reach the destination, the landscape on the way is beautiful and makes the journey worthwhile.
