Bygone elegance, quietly updated

This boutique hotel’s location is perfect if you want to be central but secluded. Just a hop across the water from St Mark’s, Ca Maria Adele’s location on a canal behind Santa Maria della Salute is nonetheless wonderfully quiet. Inside the pretty canalside palazzo, room décor veers more towards the antique than the modern (this is Venice after all), with flock wallpaper, ruched curtains and gilt mirrors giving them a decadent, bygone look.

There are nonetheless boho touches – empty birdcages, stretches of polished concrete – to lighten the atmosphere. A shady little terrace overlooking the water adds to the place’s charm, contributing a sumptuous but intimate feel all round that makes the hotel especially popular with honeymooners.
