Heavenly cakes

Noteworthy for: The nuns tradition of making pastries and biscuits dates back to the 17th century.

Feeling peckish, then get thee to a nunnery. El Convento de Las Carboneras to be exact. The Carboneras nuns make a selection of speciality sweet stuff, including almond biscuits, mantecados - the Spanish take on shortbread - and tocinillos de cielo, which appropriately translates as heaven's little pigs.

The nuns belong to a closed order so they can be heard but not seen and sell their wares through a rotating serving hatch. On the left of the convent is an old wooden door - just ring the bell and make your order.
