It was while planning my trip to Switzerland that I chanced upon the name ‘Grindelwald’, a village I had never really heard of before. It was only after my arrival that I realized how magical the place really was, albeit in a different way. As mysterious and lyrical as the name sounds, Grindelwald is actually a humble and small hamlet situated on the foothills of the ogre known to the world as Mount Eiger along with the Wetterhorn and Mettenberg. Another one of Switzerland’s gifts for ski enthusiasts and hikers, Grindelwald is so tiny that it is possible to cover the entire length of the settlement in a matter of minutes.

When in Grindelwald, do not miss out on the fabulous dining experience offered by Onkel Tom’s Hutte. Nestled inside an authentically rustic Swiss cabin, the warm folks at the restaurant serve fresh wood fired pizzas and decadent desserts, all of which are unforgettable. It must be noted that most people visit Grindelwald in order to embark on the stunning 15 km Kleine Scheidegg hike that terminates at Wengen. The beautiful town of Interlaken is the closest to Grindelwald and trains depart every hour from the Interlaken Ost Station. Please remember that sitting in the back of the train will take you to your destination because the two sections of the vehicle divide at Zweilutschinen and the front half goes right up to Lauterbrunnen.
