They are particularly in love with road trips and in the last year alone, they’ve driven over 20,000 miles in a dozen countries. They write about their experiences on www.bruisedpassports.com.
A historic school recently converted into a hostel Héradsskolinn is located in Laugarvatn in the heart of the Golden Circle. There is a café, bistro, and a wide range of accommodations—everything from shared dormitories and women-only dormitories to family rooms and private rooms are on offer. There is an extra charge for duvets and towels, so you might want to carry you own linen. Rooms are clean and spacious and even the bunk beds at Héradsskolinn Hostel are extremely comfortable. Opt for a private room if you want views of the Laugarvatn Lake or Hekla Volcano.
The owner continues to use old school furniture despite the recent refurbishment—this adds character to the hostel and makes it very special indeed. There are hot geothermal baths just down the road, perfect for a relaxed day out with friends or family. If you visit Héradsskolinn Hostel during winter, you can go tobogganing in the compound. Make sure you’re up early to catch sunrise—it’s nothing short of spectacular. Héradsskolinn Hostel is the perfect option if you want to explore Iceland’s Golden Circle and are on a budget.
