Casablanca might not be an obvious choice for a day trip from Marrakech, but it’s one that is becoming increasingly popular. It is one of the largest cities in Africa, so do not expect to explore the entire city within a day. Instead concentrate on visiting areas that tickle your fancy. The intricate architecture of Hassan II Mosque and the splendid Cathedral du Sacre Coeur should not be missed. The central plaza, Place of Mohamed V, is the focal point of Moorish architecture in the city of Casablanca. It is home to a number of important buildings including the Palace of Justice, Bank of Morocco, and Prefecture.
There is no dearth of shopping in Casablanca. Like most Moroccan cities, it has a colourful Medina. But if you’re looking for a more modern shopping experience, Casablanca is home to two big shopping centres―The Casablanca Twin Centre and the renowned Morocco Mall. There is nothing you can’t find here, so it’s easy to shop till you drop. When exhaustion takes over, escape to the beachfront district (Corniche) and relax for a while before heading back to Marrakech.
