The port of Essaouira makes for the perfect day trip from Marrakech. It’s easy to spend hours at the old Medina or bustling fish market, absorbing the sights, sounds, and smells of Essaouira. The feel of this port city is very different from that of Marrakech. It has a French feel about it but its markets and houses are undeniably Moroccan. There are jewels, handicrafts, and a wide variety of local foods on offer. Unsurprisingly Essaouira is a popular choice amongst Moroccan tourists.

Essaouira is also a haven for adventure sports enthusiasts. The seafront offers dozens of water sports but the most popular one is definitely kite-surfing. Essaouira’s location makes it perfect for windsurfers. If windsurfing is your thing, you definitely will not want to leave at the end of the day. Don’t worry, there’s no lack of things to do for those of us who aren’t into sports. Go for a long walk by the beach or just spend a lazy afternoon at one of the many beachfront cafes in the area.
