If you ask the locals of the area for a good hiking trail in Kotagiri, they will instantly suggest you make your way up to Rangaswamy Peak. For easier trails, there are several other options—many backpacking trails across the Nilgiris start from here. There’s something for everyone—short treks can be embarked on impulsively, but you’ll need to plan ahead for the longer trails that snake through the forests (you’ll need to get permission from the government at least eight days in advance). Solur Peak, Dolphin Nose to Catherine Falls, Rangaswamy Peak, Rangaswamy Peak, Darshkal Peak and Hullikkal Droog are amongst the most popular hikes in Kotagiri.
