Mumbai experienced its highest October day temperature in four years, reaching 36.4 degrees Celsius. The previous record was 38.6 degrees Celsius in 2015. The spike in temperatures was attributed to easterly to southeasterly winds at lower altitudes, which trapped moisture and caused mist in the mornings. An anticyclonic circulation at the mid-tropospheric level was also a contributing factor. The delayed onset of the sea breeze and the presence of a low-pressure system drawing away moisture were also cited as causes for the temperature rise.

The IMD on Saturday declared the arrival of southwest monsoon over Mumbai. The date June 11, was declared the official onset date. For the next 24 hours IMD has forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places.

Several parts of Mumbai witnessed rain activity on Thursday morning with low-lying areas of Kurla witnessing flooding as well. Thane witnessed rain activity throughout the day. The IMD has issued a 'yellow alert' for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar from Sunday with heavy rain forecast at isolated places.

Mumbai experienced a five-year high temperature of 38.4°C for February, prompting the regional meteorological department to issue a heatwave warning for Feb 25-26. This is the first heatwave warning of the year. The delayed sea breeze and strong easterly winds are responsible for the high temperatures, which are expected to persist with little relief in sight.

A 20-year-old man, who allegedly stabbed and robbed an elderly woman in Thane by posing as a courier boy, was arrested on Wednesday.

The drop, however, will be in the range of 16 to 18 degrees C.
