Dimasa film ‘Semkhor’ directed by actress Aimee Baruah and Assamese film ‘Bridge” directed by kripal kalita were declared as best feature films in languages category by the jury for the 68th National Film Awards on Friday. ‘Semkhor’ also has been honoured.

With natural habitats shrinking, there is a rise in man-animal conflict. In order to retain Goa’s greenery and natural beauty, the state needs to fiercely protect its forests, said national award-winning Assamese filmmaker kripal kalita.

IFFI has announced its international jury which will comprise five filmmakers from across the world.

Filmmaker kripal kalita’s debut feature film Bridge ,which throws light on the devastations and hardships that floods bring to Assam villages every year, is among the 12 movies that are currently being viewed by jury members who will finally select the Indian entry to the Oscars.

Assamese film ‘Bridge’ by kripal kalita won a special jury mention award at the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) — the second Assamese film to receive such a recognition at the festival after Santwana Bardoloi-directed ‘Adajya’ in 1996. The latter had received the jury award.

The 51st International Film Festival of India opening on Saturday will not only allow film buffs who land in Goa to participate in the annual affair, but also those from across the globe, who are unable to travel due to the coronavirus pandemic.
