The dyeing industry is in a tizzy over the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB)’s order of sealing the boilers of member dyeing units linked with 40 MLD common effluent treatment plant (CETP), Focal Point, and imposing penalty of Rs 75 lakh for continuous violation of the environmental laws. The textile and garment industrialists, who rely on these dyeing units for getting their fabric dyed, now fear that the PPCB action will jeopardise their production as the dyeing units will not be able to function properly for a long time due to sealing of their boilers. The industrialists have therefore urged the PPCB and state government to reconsider the move.
