US airlines are expressing frustration over air traffic control staffing shortages, which have caused flight delays and forced regulators to extend waivers on minimum flight requirements. Airlines are facing challenges in meeting the demand for flights due to air traffic control issues, and they are calling for more hiring and training of controllers to address the problem.

The first commercial flight between the United States and Cuba in more than a half century landed in the central city of Santa Clara on Wednesday morning, re-establishing regular air service severed at the height of the Cold War.

JetBlue and Spirit would become the fifth-largest US carrier, with about 9% of the market. The combined airline would move much closer to the leaders — American, United, Delta and Southwest — while leaving the rest of the pack far behind.
