Former cabinet secretary T S R Subramanian passed away in Delhi on Monday morning. He was 79. His cremation will take place at the Lodhi Road crematorium here at 5.30pm, the association said. Subramanian was the Cabinet secretary from August 1, 1996, to March 31, 1998.

MADURAI: Distinguished "Thavil" Vidwan Valayapatti A R Subramanian was on Saturday conferred the prestigious title -- Madhurakala Praveena -- by the Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Samajam, a renowned music academy in this city.

The Enforcement Directorate, Chennai, on Tuesday night arrested R Subramanian, promoter and managing director of Subhiksha Trading Services Limited, a retail chain of stores with the brand name of “Subhiksha.” He was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

Reducing the life imprisonment awarded to one Deepak to a five-year jail term, a division bench of Justice R Subramanian and Justice N Sathish Kumar said: "The evidence available on record clearly shows that the accused, his uncle and the deceased had fully drunk and state of intoxication was such that he was incapable of forming a specific intent. Therefore, he is guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder."
