Bhopal: If days in the city are getting hotter, making residents feel like smouldering charcoal in a burning oven, the nights aren’t too far behind. In fact, the city recorded its warmest night this summer on Wednesday, as the minimum temperature climbed to 29.2°C. At 43.2°C, the day temperature in Bhopal, too, settled perilously close to its season’s highest of 43.6°C on Wednesday. Elsewhere, several parts of the state reeled under a severe heatwave on the day, the maximum temperatures in most districts settling comfortably over the 40°-mark. The regional meteorological centre in Nagpur did not offer much comfort to residents, as it warned of a continuation of the heatwave across several parts of the state over the week, driving mercury readings even further upwards. Day temperatures in the city and elsewhere would rise by two to three degrees over the next few days, Met officials said. The day temperature in Bhopal on Wednesday was two degrees above the normal mark, while the night temperature was three degrees above normal. While Khajuraho was the hottest in MP on Wednesday at 45.4°C, Dhar experienced a heatwave while Ratlam continued to reel under a severe heatwave. As in Bhopal, Indore, too, recorded an abnormally warm Wednesday night as the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.2°C. The Met, meanwhile, forecast a partly cloudy sky for Bhopal on Thursday, with the day and night temperatures likely to be 43 and 28 degrees, while the average wind speed will be 10 kmph. Elsewhere, for the state, the Met issued a heatwave warning for isolated places in Rajgarh, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dewas, Shajapur and Agar districts. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, are likely to lash isolated places in Betul, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat and Pandhurna, the forecast stated. The Met also forecast heatwaves and warm nights in Dhar, Indore and Ujjain, while Ratlam would continue to reel under a severe heatwave.
