Elated after winning the coveted award, the Rio Olympic silver medallist Sindhu told TimesofIndia.com, "I am really thankful to TOISA and jury members for giving me this award and selecting me. Of course these kinds of awards give me a lot of confidence, encouragement to go further. Thanks so much, once again."

Apart from the Sportsperson of the year award, India's badminton queen PV Sindhu was also adjudged joint-winner in the Badminton Player of the Year category and was also given the 'Unbreakable Spirit of Sports' award as well.

"I feel happy because I came last time too. It’s a different atmosphere altogether. You get to see sportspersons from different fields. It’s really nice to be here," the reigning World champion told TimesofIndia.com.

Sindhu, who won the World Championship gold at Basel, Switzerland, in 2019, is also one of the top medal contenders for the Tokyo Olympics.
