FACT CHECK: Whose photo is this? Pran, Indira Gandhi or Amrita Pritam?

CLAIM
Many social media users have been sharing a photo with a claim that it is of legendary actor Pran disguised as a woman. A Times Fact Check reader reached out to us on our WhatsApp number 8527001433 with the photo and the text he received along with the photo, asking us to verify if it's indeed Pran in the photo.

TRUTH
Yes, the photo is of Pran, disguised as a woman.
Actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted the photo saying, "Need you to tell me who this person is? If someone already knows the answer through a different source, please refrain from disclosing. Let’s not spoil the suspense for others. Thank you. I give you 10/20/50 guesses. Answer coming soon!!"

Many Twitter users responded to Kapoor saying the photo is of Pran. However, some users also responded saying it's a photo of former PM Indira Gandhi and some said it's of actor Devika Rani.
Ten hours later, Kapoor tweeted again, announcing the answer. He wrote, "The Legend Pran sahab himself. Many of you got it right. Congratulations. Pran Uncle was the master of disguise. This was not for a film but a personal family joke."

The photo was first tweeted by Sunil Sikand, Pran's son, on January 13, 2020, saying, "Guess who? A pic a day till the 12th of February."

Responding to a Twitter user who asked if the person in the photo is Sikand's mother, Pran's wife, Sikand responded saying, "Pransaab dressed up to tease his eldest brother’s wife when doli reached their home."
The photo also has a signature that reads, 'Kumari Pran'.

Hence, the claims that the photo is of Indira Gandhi or Amrita Pritam or Devika Rani are false, and the photo is indeed of Pran.
