Apple has unveiled watchOS 27, the next major software update for Apple Watch. This new update will bring a new Siri AI experience, expanded fitness and health tools, interface refinements, and additional parental control features. Announced at WWDC 2025, the update will be available this fall for supported Apple Watch models paired with an iPhone running iOS 27. The release introduces a dedicated Siri app, new gestures, improvements to Workout Buddy, enhancements to menstrual health tracking, and updates to the Find My and Wallet apps. One of the biggest additions in watchOS 27 is Siri AI, a new version of Apple's voice assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. Users will be able to ask open-ended questions, retrieve information from notes and messages, manage playlists, send emails, and access details such as travel information directly from their watch.Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app that stores conversations in one place, allowing users to continue interactions across Apple devices and pin frequently used chats.The app grid on Apple Watch is also being updated. The new dynamic app grid will automatically highlight Siri-suggested apps, including recently used and frequently accessed applications.Apple is also expanding its fitness features with new Workout Buddy capabilities. The feature will now provide insights based on pace, distance, workout duration, and fitness history. Workout Buddy will also work without requiring an iPhone nearby and is gaining Spanish language support.For indoor runners and walkers, Apple says its improved motion-tracking algorithms will deliver more accurate distance measurements during treadmill workouts.The Health app's Cycle Tracking feature is also being updated with support for perimenopause and menopause. Users can receive notifications when logged cycle patterns suggest possible perimenopause and can track related symptoms through the app.Apple introduces a new single-tap gesture in watchOS 27 that lets users open Smart Stack widgets by tapping their thumb and index finger together once.Apple is also enhancing Smart Stack with more contextual suggestions. Widgets can now appear based on specific situations, such as birthdays, parked car locations, transit card information, or upcoming schedule changes.The Find My experience is being simplified by combining Find Devices, Find People, and Find Items into a single app with a map-focused interface.Other design changes include updates to Apple's Liquid Glass interface, which the company says improves readability and contrast across the system.A new feature called Call Context will surface relevant information during phone calls. For example, when calling an airline, Apple Watch may display related flight details or confirmation codes from Mail.Apple has also made several smaller improvements, including faster music playback, Fitness app step-count synchronisation with the Health app, and battery optimisation recommendations.The Wallet app is gaining support for custom passes created from QR codes and barcodes, allowing users to store items such as membership cards and library cards directly on Apple Watch.
