Microsoft and Ericsson have announced a joint solution that integrates enterprise-grade 5G connectivity directly into Windows 11, promising to make laptops more secure, always connected, and easier to manage remotely. The collaboration combines Microsoft Intune with Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect, an AI-powered platform that continuously monitors network quality and automatically adjusts connectivity for performance and security.
The new system embeds AI-based 5G management into Windows 11, enabling IT teams to automate how devices connect, seamlessly switch between communications service providers (CSPs), and enforce enterprise policies. This automation reduces manual setup, ensures consistent user experiences, and provides enterprises with a predictable, secure pathway to modern mobility.
Enterprise benefits
With this integration, IT departments can:
ul1- li1Remotely set network policies prioritizing 5G.
- li1Automatically switch eSIMs across CSP networks.
- li1Use local AI agents on Surface 5G laptops to make context-aware connectivity decisions in real time.
These features aim to simplify deployment, reduce IT overheads, and enhance employee productivity across locations.
Seven leading CSPs have committed to early launch programs, with broad availability expected in the second quarter of 2026. The solution is already live in:
ul1- li1United States with T-Mobile
- li1Sweden with Telenor
- li1Singapore with Singtel
- li1Japan with SoftBank Corp.
Further launches are planned in Spain (MasOrange), Germany (O2 Telefónica), and Finland (Elisa) later this year.
Erik Ekudden, CTO, Ericsson: “AI-powered 5G laptops are redefining how and where work gets done. Together with Microsoft and CSP partners, we’re enabling organizations to seamlessly automate secure, always-connected devices worldwide.”
