India AI Impact Summit 2026: Everything that Google announced at the event
Google has announced multiple initiatives at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in India. The tech giant noted that these initiatives will reinforce India’s digital foundation and human capital. The latest initiatives, which include an America-India Connect Strategic Subsea Cable project, a new Google DeepMind partnership to advance AI-powered science and education in India, and expanded workforce development efforts, follow the announcement of a $15 billion AI Hub in Vizag.
Commenting on the latest initiatives, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “India stands at the dawn of an extraordinary AI era. Having witnessed its remarkable transformation since my childhood in Chennai, I am convinced that AI is the most powerful tool of our lifetimes to solve planetary-scale problems and improve lives everywhere. For a country like India, with its unmatched optimism, rapid adoption, and world-leading digital public infrastructure, AI offers a historic chance to leapfrog gaps in healthcare, education, and opportunity. Google is deeply committed to being a full-stack partner in this journey, investing in infrastructure, skilling, and responsible innovation so that every Indian can benefit from AI that is inclusive, accessible, and transformative."
Google announced several initiatives focused on infrastructure, research, skills development, public services, and climate action at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
As part of its strategic infrastructure efforts, Google unveiled the America-India Connect subsea cable, which will create new high-speed fibre-optic routes linking the United States, India, and the Southern Hemisphere.
In AI research, Google DeepMind entered into a partnership with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) to provide researchers access to advanced AI for science models, including AlphaGenome, AI Co-scientist, and Earth AI. The collaboration will also include hackathons, mentorship programs, and broader research support. In addition, Google will roll out generative AI assistants for around 11 million students through the Atal Tinkering Labs initiative.
To support AI adoption and workforce readiness, Google is partnering with Karmayogi Bharat to train 20 million public servants across more than 800 districts. The company is also launching Google AI Professional Certificates in both English and Hindi, in collaboration with Wadhwani AI.
To help translate AI capabilities into practical use cases, Google.org is committing $30 million to an AI for Government Innovation Impact Challenge to support AI-driven government-to-citizen solutions. It is also allocating an additional $30 million to the Global AI for Science Impact Challenge, which supports researchers using AI to advance scientific discovery.
On climate action, Google announced the launch of the Google Centre for Climate Technology, developed in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
Google DeepMind CEO and co-founder, Demis Hassabis added, “India is uniquely positioned to lead the global adoption of AI in science and medicine. By doubling down on core national strengths like agriculture and the creative industries, India can pioneer AI-driven solutions for global challenges like climate resilience. Our goal is to empower local researchers and scientists with the foundational tools—from Gemini to AlphaFold—needed to accelerate the next generation of scientific breakthroughs.”
