‘Grok 5 will be out before the end of this year’, says Elon Musk as OpenAI’s GPT-5 announced

Following OpenAI's GPT-5 launch, Elon Musk announced Grok 5's arrival by year-end, touting its superiority. xAI's Grok Imagine, a video generation tool, is now free for US users, with Musk suggesting VPN access for others. OpenAI announced its latest AI version GTP-5. Soon after the launch, Elon Musk shared a timeline for the launch of Grok 5. The tech billionaire wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that Grok 5 will be out before the end of this year, adding “it will be crushingly good”. Grok is Elon Musk’s AI chatbot built by his company xAI to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and others. It’s integrated into X (formerly Twitter) for premium subscribers, along with dedicated iOS and Android apps.

Grok Imagine free to all users in US

In another post on X, Elon Musk shared that Grok Imagine – xAI’s image and video generating tool is free for all users in the US. “For the next few days, Grok Imagine video generation is free to all US users! Download the Grok app and try it out,” the tech billionaire wrote on X. Grom Imagine’s official access is currently limited to SuperGrok/Premium+ subscribers. When a user pointed out that a lot of people worldwide want to experience the AI tool, Elon Musk suggested using a VPN (virtual private network) to access Grok Imagine.
“Grok video generation will improve super fast over the coming weeks & months,” he further added.

Elon Musk’s warning after GPT-5 launch

Microsoft officially rolled out OpenAI’s latest AI model – GPT-5 across Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry recently. The tech giant’s CEO Satya Nadella shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) announcing the release. In his post, Satya Nadella wrote that GPT-5 is “the most capable model yet” from OpenAI and brings “powerful new advances in reasoning, coding, and chat, all trained on Azure.” Tesla CEO Elon Musk, however, is not happy with the partnership. So much so that he warned Microsoft against the dangers of partnering with OpenAI. Responding to Nadella’s post, Musk said: “OpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive”.
