Google I/O 2026 is here. The tech world will turn its attention to the Shoreline Amphitheatre in California as Google prepares to kick off its largest developer conference of the year. Most likely to be led by CEO
Sundar Pichai and Google DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis, the two-day event is expected to be packed with major announcements. While updates to Artificial Intelligence solutions will undoubtedly take centre stage, Google is also expected to showcase updates to its operating systems, announce hardware partnerships and provide a sneak peek into the futuristic tools it is working on. Here is what to expect and all the details about the annual event.
When to watch Google I/O 2026 live
The event will take place on May 19 and 20 and the opening keynote will begin on Tuesday, May 19, at 10:00am PT (10:30 pm IST). Most of the major news will be announced during the keynote. The main keynote may run for nearly two hours.
Where to watch Google I/O 2026 keynote
Google is making the entire event highly accessible, streaming the keynotes, live technical demos, and deep-dive sessions across both days. You can watch the official broadcast live via YouTube.
What to expect from Google I/O 2026
Google has already given us a sneak peek a week ago during The Android Show, where it announced its new “Googlebooks” laptop line and the high-spec “Gemini Intelligence” system. The main I/O keynote is where the company reveals its deepest technical breakthroughs.
Next-generation Gemini models
Google is likely to announce its latest and most powerful Large Language Model (LLM) update with focus on “agentic” AI capabilities – an AI system that can autonomously and independently execute multi-step tasks on users’ behalf.
The Android-ChromeOS merger
The new Googlebooks laptops are rumoured to run on a new unified operating system that merges the mobile flexibility of Android with the desktop efficiency of ChromeOS. Google is expected to reveal its name, features and functionality of this new ecosystem product.
Android XR smart glasses
With the massive surge in smart eyewear popularity, Google’s Android XR platform is also expected to have some stage time. After teasing a prototype built with hardware partners last year, reports have claimed that Google will show off a much closer-to-market version of its augmented reality glasses.
Creative AI: Veo, Lyria and more
Users can also expect major updates to Google’s creative suites, including Veo (AI-video generator) and Lyria (its professional-grade music tool). Google has also been working on Beam, a video-conferencing technology that uses an array of specialised cameras to capture a user in real time, projecting them to the other end of the call as a life-like 3D model.
