CES 2026: Sony and Honda's $90,000 Afeela EV finally hits roads this year

Sony Honda Mobility is ready to put its long-teased Afeela 1 electric vehicle in customers' hands later this year, with deliveries starting in California before expanding to Arizona in 2027. The $89,900 sedan represents the culmination of a project that's been showcased at CES since 2020, when it debuted as the Vision-S concept.The company used CES 2026 to confirm production has already begun at Honda's East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio, with phased demo drives rolling out to early reservation holders. PlayStation 5 owners can stream games directly to rear seat displays using PS Remote Play and a DualSense controller—a feature that reportedly works without noticeable input lag. The panoramic dashboard display spans the entire cabin width, handling everything from navigation to media apps, and even supports Zoom calls for mobile productivity.Under the hood (or rather, under the sensors), the vehicle packs 40 cameras and sensors for semi-autonomous driving assistance, all-wheel drive, and hints at augmented reality integration. An AI assistant powered by Microsoft Azure OpenAI handles voice commands.Sony Honda Mobility also unveiled the Afeela Prototype 2026 at CES—an SUV concept that mirrors the sedan's design philosophy. The company's CEO Yasuhide Mizuno called it an "early-stage concept" expected to reach production by 2028 at the earliest, though specific details remain scarce.
