Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone will gradually end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year, marking the battle royale game’s transition away from last-generation consoles. According to a blog post from the publisher, Warzone will be removed from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One digital storefronts on June 4. After that date, new players on those platforms will no longer be able to download the game.
However, existing players who already have Warzone in their library will still be able to install and play the game on PS4 and Xbox One until the end of Season 6 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Activision said overall support for the last-generation versions will cease later this year, although it has not announced a specific shutdown date. The move comes a day after Activision and Infinity Ward revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which is set to launch exclusively on current-generation consoles and PC.
Key dates for PS4 and Xbox One players
Activision has revealed the timeline for the phase-out of Call of Duty: Warzone on older consoles:
June 4: Warzone removed from PS4 and Xbox One storefronts
June 4: Purchases using local currency removed from the in-game store and menus
June 25: Warzone in-game store removed from PS4 and Xbox One
Later in 2026: Support for PS4 and Xbox One versions ends
The company also confirmed that free tiers of the Battle Pass will remain available to players on last-generation hardware while support continues. On June 4, Activision said,
“content purchased with local currency – including COD Points, BlackCell, such as Call of Duty League Operator Packs – will be removed from the Call of Duty: Warzone in-game store and applicable menus on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”Players will still be able to redeem COD Points until June 25, when the in-game store is removed from the older platforms.
How progression and purchases in Call of Duty Warzone will transfer
Activision said players who want to upgrade to newer hardware will be able to transfer their progression and most purchased content, as long as they continue to use the same Activision account.
According to the company, remaining COD Points, Battle Pass progression, unlocked content, and most purchases made with local currency will transfer to supported platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Warzone launched on March 10, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The free-to-play battle royale has received regular updates alongside annual Call of Duty releases and underwent a major overhaul with the launch of Warzone 2.0 in 2022.
While support for PS4 and Xbox One is ending, Warzone will continue to operate on current-generation consoles and PC following the transition.
