Sony officially ends Xperia Z series of smartphones
NEW DELHI: Long live Sony’s new ‘X’ series, Xperia Z phones are dead!
The Japanese handset maker, which has been struggling for a couple of years, has announced that it is killing the Xperia Z range of top-end smartphones. This means the end of the road for the product line that was launched in early 2013 and has spawned a number of smartphones, including the Xperia Z, ZR, ZL, Z Compact and Z Premium models across various years.
Following is the official statement released by Sony: “The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”
The new Xperia X series was unveiled earlier this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and includes three smartphones: Xperia X, XA and X Performance.
Xperia X feature a 5-inch Full HD Triluminos display and runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB Rom with support for microSD cards of up to 200GB. With 4G support, it offers a 23MP rear camera with predictive hybrid Auto Focus and pulse LED Flash along with a 13MP front camera. It is powered by a 2,620mAh battery. There is a dual-SIM version of it with 64GB internal memory.
On the other hand, the Xperia X Performance is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 820 processor and 2,700mAh battery. Other specs are similar to that of Xperia X.
Sony Xperia XA sports a 5-inch 720p HD display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6755 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which is expandable up to 200GB. It offers a 13MP rear camera with hybrid Auto Focus and LED Flash along with an 8MP front camera. It is supported by 2,300mAh battery.
