Google introduces ‘prompt’ feature to simplify two-step verification process
NEW DELHI: Search giant Google has introduced a new ‘prompt’ feature, aimed at simplifying the two-step verification process. Google ‘prompt’ is intended to ease account sign-in for both This feature is designed to ease out the sign-in process for Android and iOS users.
In order to use Google ‘prompt,’ iOS users will have to install the Google search app. On the other hand, Android users can access the feature by updating Google Play Services to the latest version. The company has also said that the feature is being rolled out gradually, and may a while to show up on all devices.
The working of Google ‘prompt’ is simple. Users just need to approve a pop-up prompt (hence the name) that will appear on their smartphones, as part of the two step verification process. The prompt will also display a message reading - “Are you trying to sign-in?” followed by the location and other details of the device being used for signing in.
Users will see two options under the prompt feature – ‘No, deny sign-in’ and ‘Yes, allow sign-in’. Currently, two-step verification involves users to sign-in by either providing a security key, or by entering a verification code sent to their registered mobile number.
Google has also said that users will not be able to use both options (security key and prompt) at the same time. Also, using ‘prompt’ will requires an active data connection.
