Google Chrome to block flash content starting September, make HTML5 default
NEW DELHI: Google has announced that Chrome will start blocking behind-the-scenes Flash content from September. The search giant said that Chrome 53 will begin blocking the Flash-based content such as page analytics. The move will likely lead to faster page load times and improved battery life for devices.
In an official blog post, Anthony LaForge, curator of Flash in Chrome remarked -- “Flash helped make the Web a rich, dynamic experience, and shaped the modern set of web standards. We continue to work closely with Adobe to ensure that your web experience is as fast and secure as possible and to help the Web transition to HTML5.”
In June last year, Google introduced an intelligent pausing feature in Chrome. It automatically pauses the playback of content which includes Flash- based animations.

Apart from blocking Flash content, Google also announced that it will have HTML5 as the default standard for games and videos on Chrome 55. The change will affect both games and videos and will be effective starting December.
This is claimed to provide a better, safer and power-efficient browsing experience to users. The company also said that websites that exclusively support Flash will remain unaffected by this move.
