Apple on Friday announced a new plan for its
Apple Music
music streaming service that is likely to spike its subscriber list by a considerable amount. The Cupertino-based tech company introduced the Apple Music Student plan, which gives 50% discount on the service to students from select colleges and universities.
This means that the
Apple Music membership service priced at $9.99 per month, would now cost $4.99 per month for students. The discounted service for now is restricted to universities and college students in the US, UK, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Unfortunately, India has not yet received the students plan just yet. The discounted plan will stay valid for up to 4 continuous or non-continuous years after the sign-up.
Apple is using UNiDAY, a student verification technology to make sure that those who are signing up for the new Apple Music plan are the ones from the eligible colleges and universities. The firm last month during the earnings call announced that it has hit 13 million subscribers, which is 2 million up from what it had back in February.
This new
Apple Music plan tier comes amidst the rumours that the music streaming service will witness an overhaul in June this year. The service is said to switch to black and white colour design and might also add music lyrics feature inside the app as well. Better streaming and download options are said to arrive as a part of the refreshed design. The updated app is likely to see the light of the day next month at the company’s WWDC event.
