Apple activates Twitter handle ahead of iPhone 7 launch
Apple has activated its Twitter account and redesigned its Newsroom days ahead of its September 7 keynote event aimed at launching the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Interestingly, Apple already had a Twitter account since 2011 but had the default ‘egg’ shaped avatar as its profile picture, which has now has been replaced by the company logo. The background image has also been replaced with the one seen on the September 7 media invite. The verified profile, currently, has over 70,000 followers. However, the firm is yet to post its first tweet.
Although the reason for having kept its account dormant until now is unknown, according to an Apple analyst Mark Gurman, the company will probably live tweet the iPhone 7 launch event.
In addition, Apple has redesigned its Newsroom portal as well. The posts are now larger and cleaner than before. The Cupertino-based tech firm added three new posts talking about its digital voice assistant – Siri.
Earlier this year, the tech giant launched a Twitter account with the handle @AppleSupport to provide customer support. Within minutes of it going live, the company started responding to customer queries on questions about the Safari browser, iOS, Apple Music, Apple IDs and more.
Apple has Twitter accounts for products, such as Apple Music, Beats 1 and iTunes. However it was conspicuous by the absence of its core account. It has until now stayed away from any central presence on social media platforms.
