India is advancing its air defence capabilities with the arrival of its fourth Russian S-400 system, expected by mid-May, and a fifth slated for November. The government has approved five additional units to further strengthen coverage. These systems, with a strike range of up to 400 km, were reportedly effective during Operation Sindoor in countering aerial threats. The upcoming deployment in Rajasthan aims to bolster defences along the western border, while future placement may address the China sector. India also plans to replenish missile stockpiles, establish local maintenance and overhaul facilities, and acquire Pantsir systems to enhance protection against drones and safeguard critical air defence assets.
