Trick Williams defeats Ethan Page to become new NXT Champion: CM Punk hits GTS on Page

And the new WWE NXT Champion is Trick Williams. NXT has finally made its CW debut with high-octane matches on the card including the main event NXT title match that headlined the show. CM Punk served as a special guest referee witnessing the brutal brawl between the two. Eventually, Page could not overcome the three counts.

Trick Williams becomes the new NXT Champion

Trick Williams has been in a feud with Ethan Page for quite a while and it has seemingly ended with Williams securing the NXT Championship title.

In the clash on the premiere episode of WWE NXT's debut on The CW, Williams captured the NXT Championship for the second time, defeating Page in a high-octane match. Page couldn’t put Williams away despite throwing several blows at his opponent. He also delivered a Go To Sleep which also happened to be special guest referee, CM Punk’s signature move.

Williams has managed to escape Page’s Ego's Edge finisher in a crucial moment. With a little help from Punk, who played a key role in keeping the action fair, Williams found himself in the corner. Williams dodged an attack when Page charged toward him and used the opportunity to bounce off the ropes, delivering a perfectly timed Trick Shot. That move earned him the victory and marked the beginning of his second reign as NXT Champion.

Page’s journey in NXT began with a surprise debut in May. Following his debut, the superstar locked his sights on Williams’ and the NXT Championship. Although his first attempt at dethroning Williams fell short, Page was far from moving away from his goal. In July, he claimed a second shot at the title, winning a thrilling Fatal 4-Way match at Heatwave against Williams, Je'Von Evans, and Shawn Spears, to become the new NXT Champion.

As for Williams, he was not ready to move on as well, he made it clear that reclaiming the NXT title was his top priority. Finally, he secured the title for the second time with the promise he made to his fans.

However, as the match ended, CM Punk surprisingly delivered a GTS to Page while Williams was celebrating his victory. It is fair to assume that Punk wanted to assert that his version of the move is more effective and far better than Page’s delivery.
