Late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an extremely prominent figure and leader in the world of American politics. He was a civil rights activist who also happened to be the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Every year on January 20th, WWE pays tribute to him, primarily for his contributions to the American society as a whole.
This year was no different, as WWE released a montage as tribute to Dr King, to celebrate his legacy on this special day.
WWE Offers touching tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential figure in the civil rights movement during the 1950s where he advocated for the rights of individuals of color in America. In the world of professional wrestling, there were a lot of cases of racism that happened, especially during the early days of the sport.
That however has changed off late, and WWE under the recent charge of Paul “Triple H” Levesque has actively tried to be fair in its dealings with every single wrestler on their roster. While there have been accusations of the company being racist towards individuals of color, their impressive roster of wrestlers and champions prove to be otherwise.
From Jade Cargill to the New Day to Mark Henry and Booker T, there have been a lot of wrestlers who are exceptionally talented wrestlers, and have left an incredible mark on their fans and the audience around the world, for as long as they’ve been associated with WWE. They continue to be wrestlers who actively work for the community as well.
The video package that WWE released on January 20, is accompanied by a song called Ain’t No Better Time by Chris Pearce, which is quite synonymous with the message that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood for as a civil rights activist.
WWE is one of the most, if not the most influential companies in the world of sports entertainment, and with this video package, they’re reiterating their commitment to standing by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s enduring message of hope, unity, and progress.
