Wrestling star hints at future amid AEW and WWE speculation

Speculation surrounds the future of Kazuchika Okada, whose contra... Read More
NEW DELHI: The wrestling world is buzzing with speculation as a significant clue has surfaced regarding the future of New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) star Kazuchika Okada. With his contract set to expire at the end of January, rumors have been rife about the possibility of Okada making a move to either All Elite Wrestling (AEW) or World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

As one of Japan's top wrestlers, Okada's next move has been the subject of intense speculation. Having made appearances in AEW on several occasions and with reports of WWE's 'renewed interest' in the Japanese sensation, Okada seemingly has his pick of the litter when it comes to choosing between the top wrestling promotions.

However, a recent development has raised eyebrows and may offer a clue about Okada's intentions. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, pointed out a crucial detail from the cards released for upcoming shows after February 1 – the date when Okada's current contract is set to expire.

Meltzer highlighted, "Perhaps the biggest news that nobody picked up on from the cards released is that Kazuchika Okada is on every card where a full card is announced after 2/1. His contract ended on 1/31."

While this doesn't guarantee that Okada is staying with NJPW, Meltzer suggests it's a strong indicator. The absence of a formal announcement about a new contract adds a layer of uncertainty, especially given the contractual situation of another NJPW star, Will Ospreay, whose contract is also set to expire on January 31.

Okada's recent triumph at Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4, where he defeated AEW's Bryan Danielson, has added more intrigue to the situation. With a win apiece in their ongoing rivalry, the speculation around Okada's future intensifies.
