Kofi Kingston has the justification he needed after brutally lashing out at Big E in a fiery promo on the December 2 episode of Monday Night Raw. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce celebrated the 10th anniversary of The New Day, the babyface stable originally consisting of Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E. However, Big E has been sidelined since March 2022 when he suffered a broken neck during a match on SmackDown. On December 2nd, Big E came to celebrate with his friends but he only met with harsh words from the two, accusing him of abandoning their team when they needed him. Recently, Kingston explained the reason behind their fiery promo against their former pal.

Kofi Kingston explained why they lashed out at Big E

Big E’s absence from the roster was widely felt across WWE. Fans have prayed for Big E’s recovery and his return but he is yet to be medically cleared to be able to step into the squared circle for in-ring competition. While Big E promised to manage their faction until doctors clear him, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods declined his offer and rejected him from the band altogether. After facing huge boos from the crowd, Kingston finally explained in a chat with The Battleground podcast that they had their reasons. “Here’s the thing, everything we said out there was the truth. We didn’t lie about anything. People just didn’t want to hear it, and they got mad, but everything we said was 100% honest,” he said explaining that everything they said was true.

“That’s how we’ve always been. We never lie to the people. But for whatever reason, when people hear something they don’t like, they get upset. You mentioned that he was mad at us, but the fact is, he’s really mad at E because E could’ve been back with us a lot sooner than the four or five months we watched everything fall apart,” he continued.
Kingston further asserted that many people wanted him and Woods to turn on each other but they have overcome all the odds and retained their partnership adding, The New Day has always represented genuine friendship and brotherhood. “Everyone online was saying things, and one thing, too, the number of people who wanted me and Woods to turn on each other is disgusting,” Kingston said. “We’ve done nothing but embody what true brotherhood and friendship are supposed to be. When you talk about groups in WWE, talk about tag teams—there’s never been a team that’s stayed together as long as we have. So the fact that people wanted to see us break up is kind of nauseating.”

Further justifying their action, the veteran WWE star stated that they have sacrificed a lot for the stable, he even missed his birthday to entertain people and there was no way Big E’s injury was an excuse, he added. “At the end of the day, we’re doing this for the people, trying to show what brotherhood, friendship, and selflessness look like. Woods, E, and I always had an agreement, and forgive me for repeating what I said on TV, but for those who didn’t hear it, our group has always been about ‘we before me,’ no matter what. There was no exception, like, ‘we before me, unless I have a neck injury.’”
Kingston went on to add, “We sacrificed time with our families for the group. I missed a birthday a few days ago, and I’ve missed a lot of things because I’ve been out there making the group as big as it can be. That’s a sacrifice we made, always putting the group first. So yes, Big E broke his neck, but so what? That doesn’t give him the right to put himself before the group, and people don’t want to hear that, but that’s how we feel.”
The 43-year-old explained that when he presented his case with facts he only received jabs like, “Screw you,” “Your bird chest,” or “I’m glad Brock beat you.” That was not all, he also endured brutal remarks like, “The King of the Ring is a Burger King crown,” and, “I’m not going to cook for you anymore.” Kingston said, “We don’t need anyone to cook for us—we can cook just fine on our own. And E went home and cooked too. So, you see how much we’re cooking in that situation.”

The former WWE Champion acknowledged the importance of fans in the WWE Universe but they “don’t really care” fans’ opinions because they are “ones in the situation, and we know what’s going on. We know the deal, we know the score, and we take all of that into consideration when we make our decisions. That’s what matters.”
