Baron Cobin opens up about being in a dark place before NXT

Baron Cobin, the former NXT Tag Team Champion and the former WWE United States Champion recently opened up in a recent interview about how he went in a dark place before his run with NXT. Across his tenure with WWE, Corbin has had several gimmicks that have changed over the years. One of the gimmicks was a gambling addict, whose luck doesn't favor him. During this time, he also donned a rugged look.

Some of his in-ring personas included 'Lone Wolf' which was a villainous character. Some other villainous personas included The Killer Wolf and Constable Corbin. He also played under the ring name of King Corbin and Happy Corbin. His last character shows him as a happy-go-lucky character who is wealthy. He was managed by JBL until 2023 but post this he returned to the NXT Brand. After making his return with NXT, he won the NXT Tag Team Championship as well as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2024.


In the interview, he also revealed that he was in a very bad spot before he was sent to WWE NXT, where he was paired with Bron Breakker. He also shared that he was not only burnt out physically but also mentally and was in a dark place.

Baron Cobin reveals partnership with JBL did not work well

Cobin shared, "When I was kind of finishing my time up there on the main roster before 'NXT,' like, I was stuck man." He further added, "It didn't resonate with the audience like I saw it; I still think it could have been so successful." He also reflected on how his association with JBL did not work well with the audience and shared, "It kinda put me in a dark place in a sense." (via WrestleMania UK)
He then opened up about how being a part of NXT gave him the opportunity to bring more authenticity to his character. When he brought about the changes, he received lots of admiration and praise from his peers and fans alike. He added, "The fans got a new version of me down there where they were like: 'Oh, he can go?'" He further shared that being with NXT gave him the chance to work with fresher talent that helped him rejuvenate himself.
