WPL Speed Queen: India’s search for the fastest woman bowler has begun
Somewhere on a dusty school ground, a young girl is charging in with the ball, eyes locked on the target, heart pounding with ambition. She bowls fast and fearless, full of promise but no one is watching. Not because she lacks talent, but because she lacks a stage. That changes now.BCCI proudly presents WPL Speed Queen, a nationwide movement created to discover India’s fastest emerging women bowlers and give them the platform they deserve. More than a competition, Speed Queen is a mission to reach the grassroots, break barriers and bring raw pace into the national spotlight.Fast bowling is one of the rarest and most powerful skills in women’s cricket. It demands strength, rhythm, discipline and courage. Yet across India, there are countless girls who possess this gift but never get the chance to showcase it. Geography, limited access to elite training, and lack of exposure often keep them invisible. Speed Queen is designed to change that reality. This initiative is a national talent hunt for aspiring women fast bowlers in the Under-19 and Under-23 categories. It blends the power of digital registrations with on-ground scouting to create a transparent, fair and performance-driven process. For the first time, young girls from schools, colleges, academies and local grounds across the country will be evaluated on the one skill that defines a fast bowler's speed. The trials will travel across five major regions of the country, ensuring wide access and equal opportunity:
  • Delhi: 5th - 11th January
  • Lucknow: 12th - 16th January
  • Ahmedabad: 17th - 21st January
  • Bangalore: 22nd - 25th January
  • Mumbai: 26th January - 30th January
In every city, shortlisted participants will attend structured trials where their bowling speed will be recorded using professional speed guns and assessed by experienced cricket experts. This performance-led approach ensures that selection is based purely on merit. The journey is simple and inclusive. Participants register online, attend trials at their nearest location, get their speed measured, receive expert evaluation, and qualify for the zonal rounds. From there, the fastest and most promising bowlers move closer to being crowned India’s WPL Speed Queen. There are no shortcuts. No favourites. Only raw pace, honest performance and the will to succeed. But Speed Queen is not only about finding one champion. It is about rewriting the story of women’s cricket in India. It is about telling young girls that their dreams matter that bowling fast is not just impressive, it is powerful. For many participants, this will be their first exposure to professional cricket infrastructure. For parents and coaches, it is reassurance that women’s cricket now has real, structured pathways. And for the country, it is the beginning of a pipeline that can produce future stars. Speed Queen is a turning point, a platform that empowers, inspires and uplifts. If you are a young girl who believes she has speed in her arms, this is your moment. If you are a parent, coach, school or academy, this is your chance to give your players the stage they deserve.Registrations are now open on WPLT20.com.The country is ready.
