Indians disappoint in men's 20km race walk at Paris Olympics

Indian race walkers had a disappointing performance in the 20km event of the Paris Olympics. Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh finished 30th and 37th, while Akshdeep Singh withdrew after 6km. The race was won by Ecuador's Brian Daniel Pintado. Brazil's Caio Bonfim and Spain's Alvaro Martin bagged the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

NEW DELHI: Indian race walkers performed poorly in the 20km event of the Paris Olympics on Thursday. Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh placed a pitiful 30th and 37th, respectively, while national record holder Akshdeep Singh withdrew after 6km.Vikash finished in 1 hour 22 minutes and 36 seconds, while Paramjeet took 1:23:48 to win the race, which was won by Ecuador's Brian Daniel Pintado in 1:18:55, as per PTI.Brazil's Caio Bonfim (1:19:09) and Spain's Alvaro Martin (1:19:11), the current world champion, took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively, while Massimo Stano (1:19:12), the gold medallist from the Tokyo Olympics, placed fourth.With a time of 1:20:21, KT Irfan's 10th-place finish at the 2012 London Games was the best performance by an Indian athlete.Later in the day, Priyanka Goswami will compete in the women's 20-kilometer race walk.
