KARACHI: Wasim Akram, one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, was shot at in a road rage incident in Pakistan's commercial capital on Wednesday. He escaped unhurt.

The mishap almost led to disastrous consequences.
The paceman later provided his version of the incident to a bunch of reporters. Wasim was seen telling saama.tv, "There was lot of rush and I was driving in the middle lane. Peeche se aakar kisi ki gaadi halki si touch hui. I signalled the driver to stop and pull over. He signalled that he would, then tried to drive away which frustrated me. Maine unki gaadi ko halka sa haath maara."
An altercation followed with the driver. At this stage, Wasim said, the owner came out, loaded his gun and pointed at him. "The traffic had stopped. People recognized me and started saying, Yeh to Wasim Akram hai. The man then fired towards my car tyres and ran away," he said.
The former Pakistan captain said that incidents of road rage can happen anywhere. "But we should catch the man who shot at my car and ask, Road rage mein haathon pairon se baat hoti hai, goliyon se baat nahi hoti...agar tum itne bahadur ho to saamne aao, main tumhe batata hoon road rage hoti kya hai. (In road rage, we let our fists do the talking, not guns. If the offender is man enough, he should come to me and I'll show him what road rage really is.)

"The attacker was definitely an official. I have noted down the vehicle's number and given it to the police. It was a 2002 Honda with the registration number AEG-061," he added.
Former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan, who had mentored Akram in his early days, immediately tweeted that he was glad to know that Wasim was safe. "I strongly condemn the firing on Wasim Akram's car in Karachi," posted Imran, now head of the political party Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaaf, on his Twitter handle.
Pakistan opener Ahmad Shahzad tweeted that the attack was "horrifying" and it was good that Akram was safe.
Deputy Inspector General of Karachi East, Munir Sheikh, said: "We have identified the car from CCTV footage and will have the suspect in custody in a couple of hours."
Former Pakistan stars such as Saqlain Mushtaq, Moin Khan, Rashid Latif, Mohsin Khan, Basit Ali and Jalaluddin also condemned the incident.
