"What happened is unfortunate. The administration, government and media know why it happened. Government should do justice. When the procession began, administration should have taken note of its route, adequate security on the route, adequate Police deployment. If I tell you what was being played on those loudspeakers, then government will say something else. But the Administration should have at least taken note of what was being played (on loudspeakers), are they insulting anyone?" he said.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the administration's "inaction" during the recent violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, calling it "unfortunate." She urged chief minister Yogi Adityanath to take decisive action against those responsible. The unrest erupted during a Durga idol immersion procession in Mansoor village when a dispute arose over loud music. One youth was killed, several others were injured due to stone pelting and gunfire, and around 30 individuals were detained.

"The news of violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh and the inaction of the administration are extremely sad and unfortunate. I appeal to the chief minister of the state and the state administration to take immediate action, take the public into confidence and stop the violence. Strictest action should be taken against the culprits," she said.

"My humble appeal to the public is that please do not take the law into your own hands and maintain peace," she added.

As protests in Bahraich turned violent on Monday, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya appealed to maintain peace and emphasized that the culprits will be given "strict punishment" and victims will get "complete justice."

In a post on X, Dy CM Maurya asserted that any conspiracy to disturb the peace and harmony of Uttar Pradesh will not succeed.

"Those who provide protection to the rioters are once again becoming active, but we have to be cautious and vigilant. The bright future of the state will not be allowed to be tampered with. The culprits will be brought under the ambit of the law and given strict punishment and the victims will get complete justice. I appeal to all the citizens to maintain peace and patience," he said.

Vrinda Shukla, Bahraich Supreintendent of Police said that the situation is under control now.

"We are gaining control of the whole situation. We have mobilised all our forces. We are trying to disperse all the miscreants who are trying to create trouble. The situation is under control," SP Shukla said.

Police in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, used tear gas and lathi charges to disperse protesters reacting to the killing of one individual during violent clashes that occurred the previous day during a Durga idol immersion in Mahasi. District Magistrate Monika Rani stated, "We are trying to control the situation."

According to police reports, 30 individuals have been arrested in connection with the unrest in the Maharajganj area of Mahasi, and authorities are actively searching for the main suspect.

In response to the protests, which included vandalism of local shops and the burning of a hospital and pharmacy, security measures have been heightened in the area. The clashes erupted on Sunday, resulting in one death and several injuries as two communities confronted each other during the procession.

Superintendent of police (SP) Bahraich, Vrinda Shukla, stated that 25-30 people have been detained, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy in the areas affected by the disturbance. She also confirmed that an adequate police force has been deployed.

"All anarchist elements will be identified," Shukla said, assuring that strict action would be taken against them.

Reacting to the Bahraich violence, where clashes broke out between two communities during the Durga idol immersion, Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan on Monday emphasized that strict action should be taken against anyone who violates the law. He also stated that no community should provoke or attack another.

Hasan told ANI, "No community should agitate the other community. No community should pelt stones on the other community. They should not take the law into their own hands. The right way is to tell your problems to the administration."

He further remarked, "But irritation happens when people play music on loudspeakers near Masjids during the time of 'Namaz'. At most of the places where such clashes happen, it gets converted into 'Hindu-Muslim' violence. It weakens the country and the society. Action must be taken against those who take laws in their hands."

"We must all understand that there are certain political parties in our country whose sole aim is to stir up tensions and divide people. Congress has been doing this for a long time, as seen during the farmers' movement, but in Uttar Pradesh, it is the Samajwadi Party (SP) playing this role," he further said.

This clash in Bahraich was clearly politically motivated. However, the public is now aware that under the Yogi government, culprits will not be spared. Those responsible will face the consequences through due legal process."

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Fakhrul Hasan Chaand slammed the BJP government in the state over the law and order situation following the Durga Puja clash in Bahraich and said that the incident highlighted the administration's failure to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.

"The law and order has become questionable in UP. In the Bahraich incident, the shortcomings of the administration were exposed somewhere or the other. It was a failure of the police, it was a failure of the intelligence. Whether it is Bahraich or the tension in Ghaziabad, that is also not hidden from anybody."

The primary suspect, Salman, along with 25 others, were detained following an FIR. According to reports, 20-25 individuals have been taken into custody. Meanwhile, the Durga Puja committee continues to demand the arrest of all those responsible, with chants calling for the accused to be given the death penalty echoing through the streets late into the night.

Nanpara circle officer (CO) Pradyumn Singh said that despite action being taken in the matter, over a thousand people from the Muslim community took to the streets and shouted provocative slogans near Nanpara CHC. When the police attempted to disperse the crowd, they were met with resistance, threats, and anti-administration slogans.

A 22-year-old man died in a gunfire during a clash that erupted between two communities following a dispute over DJ music being played during immersion of Durga idols in Mahsi area of Bahraich district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Ramgopal Mishra, a resident of Rahua Mansoor village.
