Thomas Harley’s OT score gives Dallas Stars 4-3 win as team powers up against Winnipeg Jets
The Dallas Stars continued their blistering pace of play Monday night, taking down the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 in overtime at American Airlines Center with a spectacular goal from Thomas Harley. The Dallas Stars constructed its offense throughout the evening with balanced scoring and effective play.
Thomas Harley finished off the game just 2:05 into overtime, executing a smooth forehand-to-backhand move in close after recognizing an opportunity to create space in front of the puck. The win marks the Stars’ fifth consecutive victory and the team's clear emergence as they near a critical point in the season.
“[Duchene] pulled up; two guys went with him,” Harley said. “Kind of filled the open space. It was a nice pass. Picked it up, looked it up, held off whoever was poke-checking, and kind of moved to my backhand and tried to elevate. OT is a little random. We won the draw tonight; the start of it was big. [Jake Oettinger] made a save when we needed him to, which is most of the time he does that, and then you’ve just got to bury your chances.”
Jason Robertson got the scoring started in the second period with a power-play tip-in, deflecting Rantanen’s centering pass just 48 seconds into the period. Winnipeg quickly struck back, as Gabriel Vilardi scored on a rebound and Cole Perfetti followed with a power play goal to give the Jets a 2-1 advantage.
Dallas Stars' defenseman Nils Lundkvist knotted the game late in the second period by slamming home a rebound from the top of the crease. In the third, Rantanen demonstrated his skill, beating a defender before slipping a backhand past Hellebuyck to give Dallas the lead at 3-2.
Oettinger finished with 24 saves, providing sound goaltending and making several key stops in Winnipeg’s surge. Miro Heiskanen contributed two assists, while Rantanen finished the evening with a goal and an assist as Dallas moved to 33-14-9.
Winnipeg, now 2-2-2 in its last six games, got strong play from Vilardi and Perfetti, who both scored a goal and an assist. Hellebuyck also stopped 24 shots, keeping the Jets in the game throughout.
With their competition racking up points, the Stars understand the importance of consistency in securing home-ice advantage.
