NHL Insider: Detroit Red Wings has no plans to trade Nate Danielson, after trading Rasmus Andersson to Golden Knights
Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has no plans to trade highly touted prospect Nate Danielson anytime soon, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
As the Detroit Red Wings were mildly involved in trade rumors with the Calgary Flames for defenseman Rasmus Andersson before it was revealed that the player wasn't looking to sign an extension with any team this season.
However, Andersson was eventually traded to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night, and it worked out well for Detroit, considering he wasn't dealt to other teams that were heavily involved in trade discussions for Andersson, like the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs, who are both in the Red Wings division.
But, in the case of Danielson was never seriously discussed, with sources insisting that Yzerman views him as untouchable stating that, "He's not trading that guy."
As Detroit’s 2023 first-round pick, Nate Danielson, had previously surfaced in trade speculation during the Detroit Red Wings’ pursuit of Hughes. NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has recently clarified that Nate Danielson was never part of discussions involving Andersson, as per The Hockey News.
Elliotte Friedman on his podcast "32 Thoughts" has further revealed that he believes there is virtually no chance that Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman would consider trading Danielson.
Based on what he has heard, the NHL Insider stated, "There was lots of rumors about Detroit. The more I hear about it the more I doubt it. Danielson's name was thrown around there a bit, I had some people say to me Steve Yzerman's not doing that, he's not trading that guy."
Friedman further stated that due to the inability to get Andersson with an extension, the Red Wings were never a "major factor" when it came to trade discussions.
However, their organizational confidence has fueled patience. Detroit rallied from 2-0 down for a 4-3 OT win over Ottawa post-Andersson's Vegas Trade, avoiding divisional rivals like the Bruins or the Leafs. Later, Friedman praised Detroit as a team that genuinely enjoys playing together and is beginning to believe in itself, giving off a “greater than the sum of its parts” vibe. NHL Insider Friedman also added that while Yzerman is willing to make a move for a true difference-maker like Hughes or Andersson, there’s little clarity on what Detroit may do heading toward the trade deadline.
