NHL Injury Update: Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin’s Olympic dream in jeopardy after sustaining major injury
In an unfortunate incident, Minnesota Wild defenseman Jodin Brodin will remain away from the club due to a lower-body injury, as reported by head coach John Hynes on Thursday via The Athletic’s Michael Russo. Following this incident, his Olympic participation has become a major concern, as his participation is in jeopardy, and his return is still very uncertain.
As per reports, Brodin suffered a lower-body injury in Monday's 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Following which, it is being speculated if Brodin will be able to return before Olympic.
Brodin is supposed to represent Team Sweden in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games 2026, and the game begins in less than one month, giving Brodin a short window to return in time. Not only Brodin, but the Wild also faced a massive blow with Brodin’s injury, as they will be without a couple of key players for Thursday's game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Coach John Hynes has also stated that, “It didn’t happen in one game. It’s something that I think has been building up a little bit.”
Speaking about Jonas Brodin’s Olympic participation in jeopardy, Michael Russo posted on Twitter/X, “Brodin is week to week. Hynes won’t go as far as saying his Olympics are in jeopardy. Personally, I do think it is. This is a nagging injury that caused him to miss 4 games in December.”
According to TSN, the 32-year-old played 18:24 in the Wild’s 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils Monday night, collecting an assist and two shots on goal over 21 shifts. He was not on the ice for Minnesota’s session on Thursday morning. Besides this, he has three goals and 15 points in 42 games so far this season while averaging 21:20 of ice time a night.
Not only Jonas Brodin, but also another forward, Joel Eriksson Ek, has missed the Wild’s previous two games with a lower-body ailment and was on the ice before the team’s session Thursday. Eriksson Ek was also named to Team Sweden for the Olympics and has 11 goals and 32 points in 45 games so far this season. He will not play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, according to The Athletic’s Joe Smith.
Meanwhile, the Wild is on 26-12-9 for 61 points in 47 games, securing third place in the Central Division.
