Losing a loved one is never easy, and turning a loss into something good is a great way to honor the lost. The Gaudreau Family has decided to give meaning to existence with two projects in memory of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. Surviving a 5K Run/Walk in Sewell, NJ, on May 31, with the launching of the official website of the Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation, these initiatives aim to honor and celebrate the brothers while trying to leave a lasting impact.
A tribute through action: Late. Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau 5K
The Gaudreau family is inviting everyone to the first annual Gaudreau Family 5K Run/Walk & Family Fun Day at Washington Lake Park on May 31. The event gathers people for the celebration of John's and Matthew's competitive spirit but strives for much bigger things. The runners can participate in a timed 5K, a non-competitive walk, or a 1-mile Kids' Dash for children under the age of 12. A virtual option for participation is available for supporters from all locations.
All proceeds raised will go toward creating an adaptive playground at Archbishop Damiano School to provide an inclusive play space for children of all abilities. Beyond the run, the event will also feature fun activities such as games, raffles, live entertainment, and special guests. The event embodies the Gaudreau family philosophy of service to the community and keeping the spirits of Johnny and Matthew alive.
Late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau foundation: A platform for change
Beyond the 5K event, the family has launched the official website for the Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation www.johnandmatty.org. Co-presidents Madeline and Meredith Gaudreau have initiated this platform to promote their initiatives that align with the values of Johnny and Matthew. The foundation will initiate projects on youth hockey development, assisting families in times of need, and supporting victims of drunk driving.
The foundation plans to extend its impact through future events and a new apparel line to build a more supportive, inclusive community. Those wishing to be kept informed can subscribe to updates on the website.
