The Philadelphia Flyers are no strangers to goalie drama, and a new report suggests that the team may soon find itself in the middle of another complicated decision. Former Flyers netminder Carter Hart, who hasn’t played in more than a year, is drawing interest from several teams—including Philadelphia itself—as the
NHL deliberates on his eligibility to return.
Carter Hart’s legal outcome leaves NHL decision pending
According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, “There are several teams, including the Philadelphia Flyers, interested in goaltender Carter Hart, but they continue to wait on the NHL’s decision to determine when he is eligible to play.”
Hart, now 27, was acquitted of the sexual assault charge connected to the 2018 Hockey Canada case on July 24. While the court case has been settled, his reinstatement to the league remains unresolved. For now, the goaltender is left in limbo, with both his career and reputation awaiting clarity from the NHL.
A crowded crease complicates the Flyers’ potential reunion
The Flyers’ interest is intriguing given their already packed goalie situation. The roster currently includes Sam Ersson, Ivan Fedotov, and recent acquisition Dan Vladar. On top of that, prospect Carson Bjarnason is set to turn pro, while Aleksei Kolosov is also expected to rejoin the mix.
If Philadelphia moves forward with Hart, the team will need to carefully manage a crowded depth chart.
One option could be easing Hart back into game form through the AHL, avoiding immediate contractual pressure while assessing his readiness.
