Arseniy Gritsyuk and Cody Glass pushes New Jersey Devils to gritty 2-1 win over Edmonton Oilers
The New Jersey Devils added to their impressive form in Western Canada with a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Arseniy Gritsyuk and Cody Glass scored a goal each and contributed one assist in helping the New Jersey Devils secure consecutive wins on the road.
Jake Allen was the backbone of the Devils’ defense, making 22 saves in total, including a strong fight-off of a relentless Edmonton onslaught in the final period of play. The win was the Devils’ fourth in the past five games, coming following a successful back-to-back series.
“He was outstanding. You knew Edmonton was going to have a surge," New Jersey coach Sheldon Keefe said. "I thought we managed that in the first and second period probably as close to perfect as we could have. We knew they were going to have a push and we needed to get some saves, and he was outstanding. ... Credit to him to stay with it and stay focused and be ready when called upon to seal the game in the third.”
The Oilers struck back quickly, capitalizing on the strength of their face-off to get the puck moving towards the goal. Matt Savoie knotted the score with the deflection of a point shot, giving the home fans a spark of energy. That spark would fade almost as soon as it began. Just over a minute later, New Jersey regained the lead via an inability to get out of their own line change.
This win showed New Jersey’s increasing confidence as a team. They were able to demonstrate how they could control a game, nurse a small lead, and play not to score, as is commonly expected of playoff teams.

New Jersey Devils fulfill game plan, edge past Edmonton Oilers' late rally
Although the first period was very competitive, the second saw no goals being scored, but the first goal was scored by the New Jersey Devils through good pass play in the middle of the second period. The first goal was scored by Gritsyuk, who had a good one-timer from the left face-off circle, assisted by Glass, who passed the puck to him, making it beat Edmonton goalie Tristan Jarry.“He was outstanding.
