Xavier Worthy’s Arrest Sparks Chiefs’ Official Response Amid Felony Assault Allegations, Facing 2-10 Years in Prison

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been arrested in Williamson County, Texas, on a felony charge of assault of a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation. The charge, classified as a third-degree felony in Texas, carries a potential sentence of two to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.


Xavier Worthy, 21, was taken into custody on Friday night after an alleged domestic incident. According to his attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, the situation escalated when Worthy asked the complainant to leave his residence due to allegations of infidelity. The attorneys claim the complainant refused to leave, damaged property, and physically assaulted Worthy before making what they described as "a baseless allegation."

"Mr. Worthy is cooperating fully with law enforcement, and evidence, including video and photographs, supports his innocence," the lawyers said in a statement.


The Kansas City Chiefs have acknowledged the arrest, releasing a brief statement confirming they are aware of the situation and actively gathering more details. The team has not provided any further comments regarding Worthy’s status or potential disciplinary actions.

This episode comes on the heels of recent off-field scandals for the Chiefs, following last year's legal troubles by fellow wide receiver Rashee Rice, who was charged in a Dallas high-speed collision.
Taken 28th overall by the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy emerged as an instant top performer in his first season. He was the top Chiefs wide receiver with 59 catches for 638 yards and six scores. His playoff performances also helped establish him as a rising star, including an impressive eight-reception, 157-yard, two-score performance in the Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

But this arrest now leaves serious doubts about Worthy's future, both with the Chiefs and the NFL, as the league has traditionally been very strict on personal conduct offenses.
