John Elway has never lived quietly, even after stepping away from the roar of the NFL. The legendary Denver Broncos player is still well-known for his life off the field as well as his football legacy. Interest has shifted to the constant presence next to him as a result of a recent Netflix documentary that adds new dimensions to his public narrative. He has known Paige Elway for a long time, and together they have shaped a partnership based on service, loyalty, and purpose.
Today, John Elway's journey seems more serene, but it is still very significant. The Hall of Fame quarterback, who is 65 years old, manages business endeavors, charitable giving, and family life with a poise that has been developed over many years in the spotlight. Those close to him are aware that Paige has played a crucial role in this chapter, even as moviegoers revisit his victories and failures. Their relationship provides a more subdued story of dedication that reflects the perseverance and discipline that once characterized his game.
John Elway and Paige Elway’s life beyond football
Their story began far from Mile High Stadium. Around 2006, John and Paige crossed paths at Marcus Allen’s celebrity golf tournament in Los Angeles. Paige later reflected on that first meeting with warmth and nostalgia, writing, "I’m so happy I found our 1st pic taken together❤️ @jelwoody for the #1stpicchallenge," followed by, "Taken the day we met in June, 2006 #marcusallen ♂️golf tournament @sherwoodlakeclub." What started as a chance encounter grew into a lasting partnership.
Paige brought her own background in sports to the relationship. In the 1980s, she was an Oakland Raiders cheerleader and still values those friendships decades later. In 2022, she shared memories from reunions with her former teammates, writing, “Raiderette reunion special times with my 'ladies of the 80’s'!” and later, “Celebrating life long friendships in Las Vegas with my @raiderettes sisters.” Those words reflect her deep respect for connection and history.

Beyond sports, Paige is widely known for her dedication to animal welfare. She and John have adopted several rescue dogs, and she consistently uses her voice to support adoption efforts. Her advocacy moved from online awareness to real impact in 2014, when she co hosted a Bowl ‘n’ Bark event in Aurora, Colorado, raising $140,000 for the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley.
The couple married in August 2009 after getting engaged in Italy a year earlier. At the time, John shared his optimism, saying he was “looking forward to a long life together.” Since then, Paige has embraced her role as a stepmother to John’s four children and a grandmother figure to his growing family, all of whom appear in his 2025 documentary.
Together, John Elway and Paige have invested deeply in the Denver community. Their support of the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver and the Barbara Davis Center earned them the High Hopes Tribute Award in 2015. As Barbara Davis said, "John Elway has been a leading community figure, world class athlete and outstanding role model for so many young people." She added, "We are thrilled to salute him and have the Elways on our team."
As Elway revisits his legacy on screen, his life off the field stands as proof that impact does not end at retirement. For John Elway, success today is measured less in trophies and more in the people and causes he stands beside.
